FEBRUARY 2008 - Civil War quilt & fabric enthusiasts are sure to love Judie Rothermel's latest group for Marcus fabrics. She describes the line, dated 1840-1870: "The CAMBRIDGE collection is a sophisticated view of the type of textiles the women from the New England area would have used in their Civil War era Quilts. More of an English and French influence. I call it Civil War prints with a northern view. The Charleston series is my interpretation of the Southern view." In designing the group, Judie focused on a color she calls Mahogany. She observed that the reddish-brown tones of Mahogany furniture also found its way into quilts of the era. Judie accented it with rose in medium and dark shades, along with a faded purple, and touches of blue. "A soft green is another compliment to this group, which is needed in the market. The mix of colors combines beautifully to create a rich and complete quilt statement. Even the name "Cambridge" reminds me of the rich mahogany wood, beautiful paisleys and sophisticated designs." Look for the Cambridge Collection in March 2008, in independent quilt shops and fabric stores worldwide.
