BUTTERFLY MANIA

According to various style & fashion blogs, Spring/Summer 2011 brings the Butterfly motif info full focus. Butterflies symbolize many things in different cultures - it reminds us of the ephemeral nature of life, as well as hope of resurrection, freedom, beauty, femininity, and the confidence that follows. As the subject of a 650-piece exhibit in Spring 2011 in New York City, red and white quilts created a huge buzz in the quilt world, sparking renewed interest for the already popular color combination. Faye Burgos' GALLERY IN RED II line bridges traditional and contemporary tastes beautifully.

Quilting & History

The 150-year commemoration of the American Civil War takes place throughout 2011, and with it, interest in quilting as a form of historical documentation is peaking. Quilters are creating heirloom quality quilts and other projects and seek the best of reproduction fabrics, patterns and inspiration. An interesting extension of the "quilts as history" theme is the Hobo Quilt craze, reminiscent of America's Depression-era railroad culture.
