Brandywine Flannel
Fabric by Faye Burgos
Quilt by Nancy Rink

Flannel has evolved as a year-round favorite among quilters, especially in gorgeous midtone florals & coordinates like those found in Faye Burgos' BRANDYWINE FLANNELS collection. It's the right look from now through the holidays! With flannels, remember to keep the piecing simple to avoid bulk, and let the fabric do the talking, just like quilt designer Nancy Rink shows here.Brandywine Flannel

7/8 yard each From each cut, 4 (8 1/2”) A squares.
Cut a total of 14 (5 1/2” x 15 1/2”) C rectangles

Directions
Note: Use a 1/4” seam allowance throughout. Sew all pieces with right sides together and raw edges even, using matching thread. Whenever possible, press seams in opposing directions so that seam intersections nest together.
Block Assembly
  1. Piece the B squares randomly together in pairs and sets of three. Make a total of 12 each.
  2. Sew a pair of B squares to a red A square. Add a set of three squares to one side so that the B squares wrap around two sides of the red square. Make a total of twelve blocks.

Quilt Assembly and Finishing
Note: Refer to the quilt image for correct orientation of blocks. There are four rows of three blocks each. Rotate blocks so that the light fabrics and red fabrics create a diagonal stripe across the body of the quilt. You may also wish to experiment with various other layouts.
  1. Sew the blocks together in rows, then sew together the rows.
  2. Sew the 48 ½” long red scroll borders to the sides of the quilt center. Press borders toward outer edge of quilt. Sew the remaining red scroll borders to the top and bottom of the quilt center. Press borders outward.
  3. Pieced Red Border. For the top and bottom border, sew three red C rectangles together end-to-end. Repeat for a total of two. Measure through quilt center to determine the exact border measurements for your quilt. Trim border length if necessary and attach to quilt. In a similar manner, sew four red C rectangles together end-to-end for side borders. Measure to determine exact measurement and trim. Sew a red scroll D square to the end of each border.
    Sew borders to quilt.
  4. Layer quilt, batting, and backing. Quilt as desired. Bind
    with green check.
